Storm was born 3 days early, on a stormy night (hence Storm). But I arrived at the stables where Donnie had been staying shortly after to see Storm stand and suckle for the first time!!
It was nice to be able to be a part of her life as she was growing up, and to know all that she was learning was what I had taught her, gave me alot of pleasure. We built up a very loving and unseperable relationship. Although she could be a handful many a time as it seemed Storm had inherited her mothers high spirits!
But sadly it all came to a tragic end, one dark night in February. Storm had reached 7 months old and it was time to wean her from her mother. Well it was her third day of being seperated from Donnie and all was well, but on the night when I went to feed her, she freaked resulting in her escaping from her stable.
What exactly happened next I will never know, but what I do know is I heard a crash so I went running out there, Storm came over so my first reaction was to cuddle her, all I could hear was a sound like a gushing tap and as I pulled away the moon shone down all I could see was blood, I put my arms around her neck and pulled away in shock she had a gapping hole in her neck. I screamed and walked away, I turned back and she looked me in the eyes what I saw I could never describe, but it made me go back to her, I tried to stem the flow using my coat, but within a few minutes Storm died in my arms, it was heartbreaking. Something I will never get over.
Meanwhile my mum had phoned the vet, the vet arrived very quickly, but said there was nothing he could have done. apparantly Storm had run into a stake hitting her jugular vein. She did not stand a chance.
